Annie Johnston

Third year pre-med student at the University of Winnipeg

Annie.jpg

My name is Annie Johnston, and I am a third year pre-med student at the University of Winnipeg. I am currently in the process of completing a 4-year Bachelor of Science program majoring in Biology. I have always been fascinated with biology but did not focus on a career in the health sciences till my last year of high school. My future goal in the health sciences field is to specialize in trauma surgery.

Besides school, I have worked at D’Arcy’s ARC Animal Rescue Center for over 10 years. I have shadowed respiratory therapists at St. Boniface Hospital. I have also been a member of CCO UWinnipeg since 2018. I have recently completed continuing education courses through Harvard Medical School, focusing on the Hematologic Complications of COVID-19. I also hope to volunteer in the Children’s ICU ward at HSC once COVID-19 has subsided.

In my spare time, I love to spend time with my pets, sing opera, and watch a lot of Netflix!

My name is Tooba Razi and I am in the last year of my General Science degree at the University of Manitoba. I did my concentrations of study in Microbiology and Biological Sciences. Throughout University I aimed to involve myself in the community as much as possible. I have been involved in organizations in the past such as Project Pulse and Let’s Talk Science in the roles of executive team member and volunteer, respectively. I currently am the Director of Academics on the Science Students Association, the Vice President of External Affairs on STEM Fellowship, and have volunteered with St. Johns Ambulance as a Medical First Responder/Standard First Aider since 2018. I also am on the planning committee for the Manitoba Schools Science Symposium, the largest science fair in Manitoba. Aside from extracurricular activities, I also have a keen interest in oncology research, having worked at CancerCare on and off since 2017. With my interests in research, community outreach, and life- long learning, I hope to become a clinical scientist and physician one day! Outside of school, I love to bake and decorate cakes, hang out with friends, and hike in the Summers!
