2024-2025 Executive Team

Sabrina Batla

Co-President

I’m Sabrina Batla (she/her), a grade 12 student at St. Mary’s Academy, and one of the Co-Presidents for Project Pulse Winnipeg this year! With this being my second year on the executive team, I hope to show students that anyone can pursue a health science career, regardless of socioeconomic status, cultural background, or personal circumstances. Growing up in an immigrant household, I often had to learn to create my own resources, so I am thrilled to help other like-minded youth do the same.

Alongside maintaining a notably high academic standing, I am active in various school clubs, such as the Peer Support Team, Tutoring Club, Newspaper Club, Muslim Students Collective, and more. I also hold leadership roles as Assistant Captain of the Debate Team, Co-head of the Asian Heritage Committee, and Social Media Manager for the STEM Club.

Beyond school, I have volunteered extensively at Grace Hospital, and I also began working in a brain cancer research lab this summer, both experiences giving me hands-on exposure to healthcare settings. In my free time, I enjoy shopping, playing basketball, and watching Bollywood movies!

Catherine Zhang

Co-President

Hey everyone, I’m Catherine Zhang (she/her), a grade 12 student at St. John’s-Ravenscourt. As one of the co-presidents, I look forward to making information regarding the health sciences more accessible to students across the province through Project Pulse. Since this is my second year on the executive team, I know I’ll have a wonderful time working with everyone to organize the conference!!

Aside from Project Pulse, I’m involved in a multitude of activities at school. I play volleyball, lead my school yearbook’s photography team, organize an annual walk to raise money for CancerCare Manitoba, and am currently part of the student council. Although I’m still unsure of what career I see myself doing in the future, I know I’m passionate about the health sciences so I take all three sciences to further explore my interest.

Outside of school, I love baking strawberry cheesecake cookies, reading poetry or literature, and knitting mini blankets. If you ever need a sweet treat or someone to review Mendel’s Laws with, I’m your person. Here’s to another amazing year with Project Pulse!

Mae Manimtim

Events and External Relations Director

Hi! I’m Mae, a Grade 11 student at Ècole Secondaire Sisler High School. I am currently taking all three sciences with the goal of pursuing a career in Biochemistry.

It took me quite a while to discover my love for studying the human body, specifically the molecular changes our bodies undergo in response to drugs. Science courses were something I shied away from considering its perceived difficulty—but now I find myself genuinely enjoying the hours I spend learning about these silly little cells.

Over the past couple of years, I have broadened my knowledge in fields like education, customer service, and student leadership roles. Having gathered valuable experiences in my previous roles, I am now in a position to apply my knowledge as one of the Events & External Relations Director, and I am excited to see where this leads me!

I’m grateful to be given this opportunity at Project Pulse, and to be blessed with a team as great as mine. Let’s have a great year everyone!

Nancy Vong

Events and External Relations Director

I'm Nancy (she/her), a Grade 12 student in the International Baccalaureate program at Kelvin High School. This year, I am excited to serve as the Events and External Relations Director for our team. My passion for health science drives me to pursue a career in this field, and I'm eager to contribute to our team this year.

As a member of the team this year I aim to support those who may be struggling to discover their interests and help guide them through their journey with Project Pulse.
Alongside my studies, I actively engage in various school clubs and seek out volunteer opportunities outside of school, allowing me to give back to the community while gaining valuable experiences. In my free time, I enjoy spending quality time with my friends.

I am looking forward to the journey ahead with the executive team and can’t wait to work alongside everyone this year!

Andrew Liu

Community Relations Director

Hello! My name is Andrew Liu (he/him) and I am a junior at St. John's-Ravenscourt School. I'm really excited to serve as Community Relations Director in this year's executive team.

As a student I strive to achieve and maintain outstanding academics, as well as a balanced co-curricular life. My involvements range from playing on my school's athletic teams, acting in plays, leading and actively participating in a variety of clubs, and more! In my spare time, I love going on bike rides, reading, listening to music, and scrolling on reels! With things like long emergency care lines, dismissive doctors, and excessive wait times for specialists, I realized I wanted to work to solve problems in both the social and medical aspects of the healthcare industry. On this team, I hope to further explore my own passions, and connect with youth across Winnipeg to consider the health sciences.

Dylan Millan

Community Relations Director

Hi, I’m Dylan Millan (He/Him), a grade 12 student attending Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute. I am grateful to join the executive team at Project Pulse as one of this year’s Community Relations Directors. Through my role, I hope to bring more inner-city schools into Project Pulse’s programming.

I have a profound passion for physics, chemistry and math that has motivated me to take Advanced Placement courses alongside attending Shad TMU over the summer to further broaden my knowledge. In school, I am a member of the student council and love being a part of and leading my school’s Youth in Philanthropy club and working with other charitable organizations. In my free time, I often find myself thrifting, learning martial arts, or volunteering through DMCI’s Leadership club.

I look forward to working with the Project Pulse team and am thrilled to see where this takes me.

Kathy Lu

Sponsorship and Finance Director

I’m Kathy Lu (she/her), and I’m a grade 11 student at Pembina Trails Collegiate. This year, I will be the Sponsorships and Finance Director on the Project Pulse Winnipeg Team. I joined the team in 2023 in hopes of finding like-minded students who are just as passionate about health science as I am, and I’m glad to say that I’ve come to the right place.

It’s a pleasure this year to be able to connect both finance and health sciences together to help accumulate funds for our conferences. In school, I enjoy taking all science courses offered for my grade level including chemistry, physics and biology. Outside of school, I am involved in my community by volunteering for many organizations and communicating with other members of my community. In my spare time, I play instruments, sports and I enjoy reading books regarding psychology, medicine and general health.

Everyday, I look forward to working with a team that strives to organize an in-person conference in hopes of helping other individuals who are interested in the health sciences field.

Hedy Lei

Logistics Director

My name is Hedy Lei (she/her), a grade 12 student at St. John’s Ravenscourt School. I am happy to continue working on Project Pulse as the Logistic Director this year.

At school, I take tri-sci courses and enjoy them all. In biology, I’m particularly interested in pathology and forensic science related examinations. During my spare time, I am committed to leading clubs, participating in Rock Show, and doing other extracurriculars such as peer tutoring. My passion for art motivates me to work on the art committee to advocate for creative expression around my school. On some days after school, I volunteer at a hospital gallery, helping the patients and the public access the latest exhibition. By doing so I hope to give back to the community the same way Project Pulse does for the student body in Manitoba.

I look forward to collaborating with my peers and bringing together another year of Project Pulse Winnipeg.

Srivatsa Rao

Social Media and Marketing Manager

Hello, I’m Srivatsa Rao (He/Him), a grade 11 student at St. John’s-Ravenscourt. I’m working on the project pulse team as the social media and marketing director, and I look forward to improving our social media pages to be as engaging and entertaining as possible!

Coming from a medical background through family members and close acquaintances, I have always been interested in health sciences and the field of medicine. One of my biggest interests is the field of biomedical engineering, which helps to find ways to improve people’s lives and the field of medicine through technology. To expand upon my interests I have taken physics, chemistry and computer science to possibly pursue medical engineering in the future.

Outside of school I play soccer and volleyball, and generally enjoy being active going on bike rides and walks. I also enjoy quiet activities like photography and reading, especially classic literature. I hope to have a great year with project pulse, and engage with many people through our social media page!

Teresa Nguyen

Graphic Designer

Hi! I’m Teresa Nguyen (she/her), a grade 12 student at St. Mary’s Academy, and I’m this year’s Graphic Designer for Project Pulse Winnipeg!

I’ve always been interested in the field of science, especially biology and learning about the human body. Ever since I’ve heard and attended PPW, my passion for health sciences and the medical field grew and I hope that being a part of this year’s PPW team will help it grow even more! Not only that, but I am always open to helping my younger peers as I am part of my school’s Peer Support Team, Peer Tutoring Club and the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Movement.

Outside of school, I enjoy playing the flute and trying new things! I like experimenting with my creativity and making connections with people through similar interests. Hence, that is why as a member of the PPW executive, I’m hoping to make more connections with people and help them find their passion for the health sciences/medical field.

Erica Youn

Professional Relations Director

I’m Erica Youn (she/her), a grade 12 student in my second year at Fort Richmond Collegiate. In my free time, I love running, working out at the gym, and picking up new skills such as watercolor painting and playing the flute!

Prior to transferring to FRC, I attended a rural Manitoba high school where I had a strong interest in science but limited exposure to STEM opportunities. After moving, a handful of new opportunities really solidified my passion for STEM. The Ducks Unlimited Case Study, research on the Namao Research Vessel, SHArK at UofM, and SHAD TMU 2024 are only a few of the many memorable projects and experiences I got to experience. However, Project Pulse was what truly guided me toward the healthcare stream of STEM, and helped shape my post-secondary aspirations.

As Professional Relations Director, I aim to help others in similar situations by introducing them to the world of healthcare and offering them that small push to help discover new passions.

Medha Harish

University Relations Director

I'm Medha Harish (she/her), a grade 12 student at Kelvin High School in the International Baccalaureate programme and this year's University Relations Director for Project Pulse Winnipeg! My passion for health sciences and medicine developed early, leading me to participate in science fairs in elementary and middle school and now to volunteer at Misericordia Hospital. I hope being on the executive team for the 2025 conference will allow me to explore the broad healthcare field and inspire others to pursue careers in these fields.

At school, I enjoy studying biology, chemistry, and psychology. I’m involved in the Hope for Humanity club and various other activities. Outside of school, I dance, help teach at my studio, and spend time with my friends and family!
